Instruction with Questions
Day 1
Read the book “Christmas in the Manger” by Nola Buck
Show students a variety of ways to draw stars. The main ones I show are the cross with the x in the middle, the random lines intersecting and the spiral. Have them use oil pastel to make at least one large star and then go crazy with dotting all over the paper.
Next have them watercolor over their oil pastels. This is like a magic trick!
Try to keep the paper nice and wet and toss some table salt all over it and let them dry.
Day 2
Paint the student’s hands and repeat three times. The thumbs will be the heads of the camels.
Day 3
Give the students brown and black crayons.
Have them color the sand where the camels are walking. I tell them to draw the ground so the camels are not flying heehee.
Show them where the heads of the camels are. Show them the buttocks of each camel. Using brown, add the tail to each hind-quarter. Next, make ears on each camel.
Some students pointed out that the camels need a hump. These look adorable when added.
Using black, add a face, and hooves on the camel feet.
Day 4
Have each child pulled aside one at a time and paint their fingertip to make each king. I paint, dab on the paper, and wipe with a baby wipe. I do this with red, blue and purple paint. Using their pinkie finger, I add a head to each king with beige paint that I mix with brown and white.
Once everything is dry, I added faces onto the kings and glitter glue on the star and crowns.
